EasyPower S.A has selected Satcon Technology Corporation to supply its PowerGate Plus 100 kilowatt solar PV inverters for 25 solar installations in Rhodes islands, Greece.
EasyPower S.A will be developing and constructing the solar power facilities in the island. The solar power generated from these plants is enough to meet 1.2% of the electricity needs of the island. RNA Power S.A, EasySolar S.A., and Diachrisi Iliakis Energeias S.A. will jointly own the solar installations.
Currently, diesel generators are used in the island to generate up to 194.4 MW of electricity. During summer months, the demand for energy increases substantially as the population in Rhodes goes up by three hundred percent. The new solar installations will provide the much needed support to meet the electricity needs during peak periods thus enhancing the stability of the grid.
Nikos Savouris of EasyPower said the solar project in Rhodes required unique design that helped to enhance the stability of islands’ power grid. Each solar power plant comprises PowerGate Plus inverter from Satcon, two-axis trackers and high-efficiency monocrystalline modules and could produce more than 225,000 kWh per annum.
Savouris commented that established technology and innovative features in the PowerGate Plus inverters made the company to select Satcon Technology Corporation. Satcon’s General Manager for Europe, Peter Deege, said the company was happy to be selected by EasyPower for this Rhodes solar project.
