Toshiba International Corporation in collaboration with Mitsui & Co. Plant Systems Ltd will be supplying three numbers 324MVA hydro power generators to a leading power generation company in Colombia, Isagen S.A. E.S.P. The power generators are meant for Sogamoso hydro power plant, which is located in Santander state.
A total of 35 power generators have been supplied already by Toshiba International in Colombia. The new generators will be largest that the company is supplying to the Colombian market. The equipment will be delivered at the site by January 2012. By the end of 2013, the project will be commissioned.
During the next decade, the power market in Colombia is anticipated to increase by 3,000 MW due to strong growth in the economy. Endowed with rich water resources, Colombia is anticipated to add about 2,400 MW through hydro power, making it the single largest energy source. A new office has been established by Toshiba International Corporation in Colombia to provide support for the Sogamoso hydro power project and also to look for further hydro power orders.
In order to promote its power plant systems in North America, Toshiba International Corporation had opened its office in 1967 in the United States. The company has delivered so far a total of 55 generators and 33 turbines in the Canadian and U.S. markets. With expertise in hydro power equipment technology, the company is making intensive efforts to secure orders from many potential refurbishment hydro power projects in North America. The company is also seeking to enter new markets including in South America.
