BioStorage Technologies’ German Biorepository Receives Green Certification

A leading sustainable energy provider based in Germany, ENTEGA Vertrieb GmbH & Co, has issued a green certificate to BioStorage Technologies for utilizing 100% renewable energy at its biorepository facility in Germany. BioStorage Technologies, a cold chain logistics company, provides storage solutions for biomaterials for short-term as well as long-term.

BioStorage Technologies’ biorepository in Germany is used by many companies including biobanks, biotech firms, global pharmaceutical companies, academic and research organizations. The 18,000 square-foot facility uses 360,000 kWh of electricity per year and this requirement is met entirely through renewable sources. About 189 tons of carbon dioxide emissions are prevented by BioStorage Technologies by using renewable energy at this facility during the first year. The contribution to the environment is expected to increase substantially as the company’s European operation increases.

F. John Mills, M.D., Ph.D., chairman and chief executive officer at BioStorage Technologies, said the company’s facilities across the world utilize 100% renewable energy and the initiative underscores the company’s commitment to the environment.

Managing director of BioStorage Technologies' European operations, Dr. Wolfgang Hoffer, said that in addition to renewable energy initiative adopted at all its facilities, other eco-friendly measures such as optimized water and paper usage are also practiced.
