Canadian Solar has installed the first OPA (Ontario Power Authority) approved microFIT (feed-in-tariff) solar system at its headquarters in the City of Kitchener. The 3.2 kW DC solar system from the company was installed on the office building, which is already a designated green building, that uses half the energy and water when compared to a commercial building.
Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar, Dr. Shawn Qu, said the company is extremely happy to install a microFIT solar system that is the first to be approved by OPA at its headquarters in the City of Kitchener. Qu further said the company’s solar modules to an extent of 700 MW are installed in more than 30 countries, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company will continue in its efforts to bring more solar power in its home province, Ontario, Qu said.
Owner and president of CMS Electric, Chuck Mantel, said that the installation of the system was seamless working with representatives and products from Canadian Solar. He further vouched that the turnkey solar solutions from the company made generation of solar power easy for the consumers. The company offers comprehensive solar solutions for commercial and residential applications including financing.
Under the microFIT program, owners of solar systems will be provided a guaranteed price for a period of 20 years for all the power generated and supplied to the electricity grid in the province.
