SunPower announced that it has signed a strategic solar supply agreement with Toshiba Corporation to deliver high-efficiency solar panels totaling 32 MW during the year 2010. Toshiba Corporation is set to launch a residential solar offering in Japan on April 1 and these solar panels from SunPower will be utilized for the new offering.
Tom Werner, SunPower CEO, said the company is delighted to be provided an opportunity to work with Toshiba Corporation, an important business leader not only in Japan but also across the world. The solar panels from SunPower are especially well-suited to the residential market in Japan, where the new incentive through feed-in-tariff introduced by the government is high, but the roof area available in the country is typically small. High-efficiency solar systems from the company will enable many more consumers to benefit from this incentive, Werner said.
Chief technology executive of Transmission Distribution & Industrial Systems Company, Toshiba Corporation, Shoji Takenaka, said the company will offer high quality, reliable, and efficient solar energy systems to the homeowners. The company is delighted to partner with SunPower since their solar panels are reliable, have high performance levels and most important of all, their high efficiency enables to save space, which is very important to the customers in Japan, Takenaka said.
