IBERDROLA RENOVABLES to Develop One of the World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farms in UK

In order to develop offshore wind projects totaling approximately 10,000 MW throughout the world, a new offshore wind division has been created by BERDROLA RENOVABLES. Keith Anderson will be the head of this new division, which will be incorporated into the company’s UK business unit, ScottishPower Renewables, which again is managed by Anderson.

The objective of the company is to strengthen its wind energy business, which has attractive incentives from governments. Recently, rights to construct one of the biggest offshore wind farms in the world were awarded to IBERDROLA RENOVABLES along with Vattenfall. The proposed wind farm, East Anglia Array, in the UK, with up to 7,200 MW capacity, is scheduled to begin construction in 2015.

The offshore wind energy portfolio of the company comprises an additional 2,500 MW in Spain, UK, and Germany. In the UK, the company has a portfolio of 1,700 MW including the 500 MW project at West of Duddon Sands that is coming up in 2012. The objective of the UK government is to have between 20,000 and 30,000 MW of installed wind capacity by the year 2020.

Between 2010 and 2012, IBERDROLA RENOVABLES is expecting to invest €9 billion to speed up its internal expansion as well as to consolidate its leadership position in the wind energy sector.
