Ascent Solar Technologies has signed a three-year photovoltaic module supply agreement with Texas-based company FTL Solar. As per the agreement, FTL is committed to purchase $6.5 million worth of two meter high efficiency flexible CIGS photovoltaic modules from Ascent over the contract period. Ascent Solar is a leading flexible thin-film photovoltaic module developer.
Tony Saxton, CEO of FTL Solar, said the company is pleased to be a distributor in U.S. to supply light weight PV modules from Ascent Solar that can be used for sailboat sails, fabric awnings, tents, airbeams, umbrellas tensile structures, and tarps. The company’s solar products integrated with Ascent's lightweight flexible modules are the optimal means to convert sunlight into power and to provide additional functions such as shelters as well. FTL Solar has started to market its PowerMod tents that are incorporated with PV modules from Ascent Solar for tent rental industry and military. PowerFold mini battery chargers are also being sold by the company for consumers as well as military. In the future, with the integration of flexible modules into flexible fabric products, the fabric structure industry will become providers of renewable power, Saxton said.
