ProLogis and Portland General Electric have selected Energy Conversion Devices (ECD), a leading manufacturer of thin-film flexible solar laminate products in the world, to supply its 2.4MWp of Uni-Solar laminates. These laminates are intended for installation on ProLogis’ seven distribution warehouses located in Clackamas, Gresham, and Portland in Oregon.
ProLogis has leased the rooftops to Northwest Solar Solutions, which will be installing the solar energy systems. A new company, SunWay 3, LLC, has been formed by Portland General Electric and U.S. Bank, which will own and operate the rooftop solar systems and also to procure federal and state solar tax credits.
This is ECD’s second rooftop solar project with ProLogis and Portland General Electric. ECD’s UNI-SOLAR light weight solar laminates that were used in the first project will be used for this project also. The firs project, a 1.1-MW rooftop installation, was brought online in 2008 by ProLogis and PGE. The power produced in both the projects is enough to meet the electricity needs of 388 homes per annum.
Vice president of renewable energy for ProLogis, Drew Torbin, said the company is delighted to be working with both PGE and Energy Conversion Devices again. This project, which covers an area of 906,000 square feet, will be Pacific Northwest’s largest rooftop solar system, Torbin said.
