Suzlon Energy Limited Receives Repeat Wind Turbine Order from GSPCL Group

Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL), the largest manufacturer of wind turbines in India, has bagged a major wind energy project from Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. (GSPL). The wind energy project to be set up in the Porbandar and Rajkot districts of Gujarat comprises 35 units of S82-1.5 MW wind turbines generators manufactured by Suzlon.

The 52.5-MW wind energy project is to be developed, maintained and operated by SEL. The project is planned to be commissioned by July 2010. Under a long-term power purchase agreement with GSPL, the power produced in the project will be bought by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited.

GSPL’s parent company, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited (GSPCL), currently has a 52.5-MW wind energy project in Kutch district. Suzlon has developed this wind power project and is operating it since July, 2009. The total wind energy installed capacity of the group will go up to 105 MW with this new project, all of them in the Gujarat state.

President – South Asia and Middle East, Suzlon, Mr. Ashok D’sa, said the GSPCL is a leading energy transmission infrastructure developer in Gujarat and this new order from the company demonstrates its confidence in Suzlon’s capabilities, technology and services. The company acknowledges the confidence reposed by it in Suzlon and is looking forwarding to further strengthening its relationship with GSPCL, he said.
