ACS Enters Renewable Energy Market in the United States

ACS has set foot in the renewable energy market in the U.S. with wind energy and solar projects totaling 550 MW. According to the company, after Portugal and Mexico, this is the third country the company has entered into in the renewable energy sector. In 2009, the turnover of the company was 187 million euros.

Two wind farms, one in New Mexico with a capacity of 150 MW and the other in Texas with a capacity of 250 MW, are in the development and funding processes. In the solar energy sector, the company is proposing two concentrating solar power plants, one in California with a capacity of 100 MW and the other in Nevada with a capacity of 50 MW.

The company’s U.S. strategy is timed well with the expected boost from President Barack Obama for renewable energy in the country. While presenting the annual results of 2009, the company president, Florentino Perez, said ACS will further strengthen its presence in the U.S. The group is already active in the country with 22 offices and civil projects. The revenue from the country represented 25% of the group’s turnover last year.

The company has invested 3.163 million euros in the renewable energy business in 2009, demonstrating its commitment to this sector. The company spent 1,454 million euros and 1.709 million euros for the development of solar thermal and wind farms, respectively. Currently, ACS has a total renewable energy installed capacity of 1324.25 MW, under development, 500 MW and in funding phase, 1866 MW.
