Western Wind Energy Provides Updates for its Wind and Solar Projects

Western Wind Energy Corp. announced that its 11-MW Steel Power Wind and Solar Project and the 50-MW Mesa Wind Repower Phase One project will begin construction before 2010 year end. Both the projects are scheduled to commence productions before June 30, 2011. By the end of the year, Western Wind together with Windstar is proposing to construct projects with total capacity amounting to 161 MW.

Western Wind is actively engaged with RMT, Inc., its EPC - BOP contractor, for both the Steel Park and Mesa projects. For the Steel Park project, both the companies are working jointly on various activities including system impact, preliminary design, permitting and feasibility studies. For the Mesa project, the independent engineer from the lender has completed the resource assessment. A site suitability study has been completed by Gamesa, a wind turbine manufacturer.

When the both the Mesa and Steel Park projects start commercial productions, Western Wind will seek 30% tax free cash grant from the U.S. Treasury Department. This tax free grant is made available under the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act of 2009.
