The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded LEED Platinum certification to an eco-friendly café and bakery, Claire's on Cedros, located in Solana Beach, California. Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) has verified the certification. LEED is the premier program for certifying high performance green buildings in the country for their design, construction and operation.
By achieving this milestone, Claire's on Cedros has become the first restaurant in San Diego to receive LEED Platinum certification. This restaurant is one of two in the California state and one of four in the country to receive this highest ranking award. In addition, it also holds Green Restaurant Association’s Certified Green Restaurant designation. In the San Diego County, it is the first project to be allowed Coastal Commission permit fee reduction.
Terrie Boley and Claire Allison, owners of Claire's on Cedros, stated the restaurant is delighted with this LEED Platinum certification and commended its dedicated staff and talented design team, who have made this achievement possible.
The project located on a parcel of land measuring 20,000 square feet comprises American bistro cafe and bakery, an attached live/work loft and commercial office space. The design team was led by LC Architecture’s Jean-Louis Coquereau, AIA, LEED AP including Maura Johnson, interior designer.
