Flextronics announced that it has signed an agreement with Q-Cells to manufacture solar modules for the company. Q-Cells is one of the largest producers of solar cells in the world. The agreement, which is one of the biggest solar producing contract granted till date, places Flextronics as the top EMS player in the clean technology market.
For manufacturing the contracted solar modules, Flextronics will commit 200 MW of its manufacturing capacity at its Clean Tech Super Site in Malaysia. Benefits for Q-Cells through this agreement include a strategic location of the manufacturing site that allows the company to take advantage of the fast evolving solar supply chain in Malaysia, and a reinforced market position by capitalizing manufacturing expertise and scale of Flextronics.
CEO of Q-Cells SE, Nedim Cen, stated that the company is pleased to collaborate with Flextronics, a flexible and experienced partner who will provide it with crystalline modules and help the company to expand its product range. This agreement with Flextronics is a significant milestone for the company, Nedim Cen said.
President of Flextronics Industrial, EC Sykes, stated that the agreement with Q-Cells for the production of solar modules is in line with the company’s key strategic initiatives, which is to become a leading OEM partner in the clean technology market. The company is delighted to have been selected by Q-Cells, Sykes said.
