Suntech Power Holdings Completes 1-MW Solar Installation for Harrah's Rincon Casino in California

Suntech Power Holdings, the biggest crystalline silicon solar panel producer in the world, announced that the installation of a 1-MW solar power system has been completed for Harrah's Rincon Casino, located in Southern California. The solar system will help the casino to offset about 25% of its total power consumption and it represents the resort’s ongoing efforts for sustainability and conservation.

The solar power system covering an area of five-and-a-half acres comprises more than 4,000 Suntech solar panels and will generate enough power to meet 90% electricity needs of the HVAC system in the 662-room property. The casino is expected to realize a significant energy cost savings through this solar installation.

Chief Strategy Officer of Suntech, Steven Chan, said the solar power plant was led by Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians in collaboration with TRANE, California Center for Sustainable Energy and San Diego Gas & Electric. It is a good example for the businesses in California to follow and reflects the California Solar Initiative program’s success. The company is happy with the cost and environmental benefits from the solar installation at the Harrah's Rincon site, Chan said.
