The U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Samsung Electronics America with the ENERGY STAR Promotion Award for 2010 for its contributions to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. The company has sponsored a number of consumer education efforts that promote energy-efficiency products.
Since 1996, Samsung has been an ENERGY STAR partner and with a range of ENERGY STAR products has worked to enable and educate consumers to save energy and recycle. The products include certified computer monitors that enabled consumers to save about $48 on their yearly annual bill. The clothes washers from the company helped the consumers to save over one billion kWh of electricity in 2009, as per internal studies. Through its Samsung Recycling Direct program, the company has recycled over 18 million pounds of e-waste in 18 months.
VP of Customer Satisfaction Division, Samsung Electronics America, JC Ser, said the company by capitalizing on its cutting edge technologies has made its products more energy efficient, greener and improved the manufacturing as well as the distribution processes of the products. JC Ser further said the company’s new energy efficiency products have helped to save over seven billion kWh of energy in 2009. The company is pleased that EPA is recognizing its efforts for energy efficient products as well as for consumer education and is looking forward to continue ENERGY STAR partnership.
With the assistance of ENERGY STAR, Americans in 2009 alone saved about $17 billion on their electricity bills and cut down emissions of greenhouse gases equivalent to removing 30 million vehicles off the road.
