Fox Energy Specialists, a leading energy testing services provider for commercial, residential and government customers, has been presented a 2010 ENERGY STAR Leadership in Housing Award for its contribution made to environmental protection and energy efficient construction by he U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The company has validated over 2800 ENERGY STAR qualified homes in 2009. The combined savings of these homes every year on energy bills is about $1,261,434.
The benefits to the environment due to these ENERGY STAR qualified homes is equal to curtailing the emissions from 1,383 vehicles, eliminating the use of coal of up to 8,364,408 lbs, planting 2,286 trees, or avoiding 16,404,286 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
In order to earn ENERGY STAR certification, a home must meet the energy efficiency guidelines fixed by the EPA. These ENERGY STAR homes when compared to homes that were constructed to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC) are 15% more energy efficient. And when compared to standard homes, these houses are more energy efficient by 20% to 30%.
Homes that are ENERGY STAR qualified in addition to features available in new homes have other energy saving features such as high performance windows, effective insulation systems, efficient products, tight construction and ducts, efficient cooling and heating equipment and verification of energy performance by a third party.
