Comcast's New Building Receives LEED Platinum

The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification to the new zero-carbon Sonoma County Operations Center of Comcast Corporation. Green building products contractor, developer and investor Codding had managed and constructed the project at Sonoma Mountain Village.

The Operations Center having an area of 35,000 sq. ft. blends nicely with its locality where Codding intends to develop a neighborhood with employment opportunities and housing units close to daycare centers, grocery shops and restaurants.

The 150 employees of the Operations Center offer field and maintenance services for high-speed Internet, telephone communications and the sophisticated digital video services offered by Comcast.

The Operations Center produces zero greenhouse gases and utilizes only 46% of the water consumed by a conventional new office building.

Some of the features of the Operations Center include: 100% solar energy use; 98% recycling of total construction waste; usage of advanced lighting that consumes 35% less energy than a conventional new office building; usage of advanced air filtration that provides 30% more clean air than a conventional new office building; local and salvaged materials; and green janitorial service.
