Borrego Solar Systems, Inc and renewable energy company Sunwheel Energy Partners have joined together to provide solar energy of over 645 kW to five housing units across Southern California. Sunwheel, by means of its power purchase agreement (PPA), offers essential operational components and financing, whereas Borrego provides affordable housing expertise and solar integration services.
Borrego’s CEO Mike Hall commented that over the past two years the company has set up solar energy systems with a capacity of over 3 MW at 30 different facilities. Moreover, the company’s relationship with Sunwheel will help deliver affordable solar energy to homes across California.
Sunwheel’s COO Michael Steinbaum opined that the cost of solar energy housing is one of the major hindrances to the growth of the solar energy sector and to that end, the company’s PPA financial solution will assist home owners to understand both the long- and short-term advantages of solar energy.
The two companies Sunwheel and Borrego are collaborating with an urban revitalization and St. Louis-based company McCormack Baron Salazar on these assignments including an affordable housing facility of 185 units in Cathedral City and a 373 kW solar system spread across 41 building units at the Creekside Apartments, California. The five Southern California facilities when combined together will produce annual renewable energy of around 900,000 kWh, thereby offsetting large quantities of carbon dioxide emissions and assisting to decrease the home owners’ operational costs.
