Terra Energy Resources Negotiates with Tekno on Geothermal Assignment

Terra Energy Resources, Ltd., is negotiating with Jala Tekno Geothermal (Tekno) for mutually working on certain areas such as finance. Located in Jakarta, Indonesia, Tekno is a geothermal/renewable energy holding firm. Tekno has drilled a steam-generating well that can produce more than 6 MW of steam.

Pandawa Energy, the parent company of Tekno, attempts to create two geothermal resource regions on the Java island of Indonesia and three other geothermal regions on other islands of Indonesia, which together can hold around 1,000 MW of electricity. So far, a number of European and American geothermal industry companies have shown interest to provide the Pandawa Energy projects with technical and operational expertise as well as downstream and upstream financing.

Indonesia known to have the world’s largest high-quality geothermal resources is believed to contain over 27,000 MW of geothermal resources. Out of that, hardly 4% is currently tapped and in use.

In 2009, the government of Indonesia announced the National Electricity Development and Investment Program for establishing a surplus 10,000 MW capacity scheduled to be implemented during 2009 and 2014 with capacity of 4,800 MW, out of which 48% is likely to be produced from geothermal sources. To meet this development plan, Pandawa Energy is likely to contribute 70% of the total capacity.
