Satcon Receives 150MW Order from GCL Solar for Solar PV Inverters

Satcon Technology Corporation, a principal supplier of utility scale power products for use by the renewable energy industry, has received an order from GCL Solar Limited, a leading solar power plant developing and supplying company, for the supply of 300 units of its 500kW solar PV inverters totaling 150 megawatts of power. The deal reflects the continued partnership of Satcons with GCL, which was first established during the year 2009.

Satcon is expected to start the supply of solar inverters during the month of April and is scheduled to complete the supply in October 2010. GCL is planning to utilize the inverters in a number of utility scale projects at various places in China. Earlier, Satcon collaborated with GCL to provide China’s largest rooftop power plant installation of 3MW and the country’s largest ground mounted power plant of 20MW capacity during December 2009.

While acknowledging the role of Satcon, the General Manager of GCL Solar Limited, Dr. Gu Huamin said that while the earlier deal with Satcon provided the groundwork for developing China’s photovoltaic industry on a large scale, the current deal allows a level of sophistication in the project. He added that the right balancing of technology innovation and the consistency and efficiency of the system are vital for the successful supply of solar energy power to the national power grid of China.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Satcon, Steve Rhoades regarded GCL as a large, forward looking solar innovation company. He added how the projects of the company have established a benchmark in the design of utility scale solar units and installation, and helped in creating a fresh phase of growth in the solar PV power production industry in China.
