Shermco’s Director to Present Paper at Windpower 2010

The renewable energy services’ director of Shermco Industries Kevin Alewine will be presenting the “Statistical Study of Failure Modes in Wind Turbine Generators” study at Windpower 2010 at the Dallas Convention Center located in Dallas, Texas. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) hosts the Windpower 2010. AWEA offers advocacy, education, and communication for promoting the growth of wind energy.

The study indicates the most common wind turbine generator failure modes and offers failure frequency analysis. Furthermore, it includes suggestions for enhancing reliability by appropriate maintenance and installation.

The study is co-authored by TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company’s advanced insulation system engineer William Chen.

Kevin, who has a rich experience in electrical insulation system specification and evaluation, stated that the study was done based on information gathered from around 2 GW of refurbished, remanufactured or repaired wind turbine generators. The study provides in-depth understanding on the causes for wind turbine generators failure and how those failures can be averted.
