OG+E to Build a New Wind Farm in Oklahoma

OG&E is seeking the approval of Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) for the construction and operation of a wind farm called “Crossroads” of capacity 198 MW in northwestern Oklahoma. If and when approved, OG&E can quadruple the total amount of wind energy currently produced by the year 2012. This novel wind farm is likely to commence operations by mid-2011.

In 2008, OG&E had a target of increasing its total wind energy production by four times from 170 MW. Currently, it is 270 MW and projects coming to an end in 2010 will add some 280 MW to it. The operation of the new wind farm will mean that the company can produce around 751 MW of wind energy in total.

OG&E’s Regulatory Affairs Vice President Howard Motley commented that the renewable energy generated from the novel wind farm will provide savings to municipal, business and residential customers.

RES Americas is slated to develop the new wind farm worth $400 million, which is likely to be located at Dewey County near Taloga. The wind farm will utilize 86 turbines of Siemens with a 2.3 MW capacity each. All the 83 turbines will be linked to the Windspeed transmission line of OG&E.
