Ecospiral Light Bulb from Energy Mad

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and Duane Reade, in partnership with Energy Mad, a New Zealand company, are set to introduce a novel energy-saving light bulb named Ecospiral in New York on April 17, 2010.

Ecospiral

Ecospiral light bulbs use around 75% less electrical energy in comparison to conventional incandescent bulbs. The new bulbs will be provided at discounted rates across 250 stores of Duane Reade in New York. Each home in New York that uses the Ecospiral bulbs in place of conventional bulbs can save its energy expenses of $980 over the life-time of the Ecospiral light bulbs. Estimates from Energy Mad indicate that the energy savings rendered by the light bulb is sufficient enough to supply electrical energy to the Yankee Stadium for a duration of 10 years.

The Ecospiral bulbs are designed to have an operating life that is 3 times longer in comparison to other energy-saving bulbs and 15 times longer in comparison to conventional bulbs. Approved by the Energy Star, these new bulbs contain very low mercury content.
