In an effort to honor the founder of Calpine Corporation Pete Cartwright, the company has decided to dedicate its Geothermal Visitors Center to Catwright in a ceremony at the Cartwright Geothermal Visitors Center located in Middletown, California. Calpine Corporation is honoring Pete Cartwright for his efforts in promoting The Geysers, thereby furthering the production of geothermal energy.
During his early days, Pete Cartwright joined the Project Matterhorn of Princeton University, which is an Atomic Energy Commission project generating thermonuclear energy. Pete Cartwright founded Calpine Corporation in 1984 as a company focusing on natural gas-fired and geothermal power plants. Pete Cartwright played a key role in building and designing geothermal power facilities at The Geysers in southern California and Utah. Recently, Pete Cartwright founded Avalon EcoPower, a firm focusing on renewable power projects.
Ever since 2001, more than 60,000 visitors from every state in the U.S and from 77 nations around the globe have visited the Geothermal Visitors Center to learn about The Geysers, Calpine Corporation and the important role played by geothermal energy in the energy portfolio of California.
The operation of Calpine Corporation at The Geysers comprises large geothermal power plants. The green energy generated by The Geysers helps offset large quantities of greenhouse gas emissions.
