Mercury Solar Installs Solar Energy System for Suffolk Transportation

Solar integrator Mercury Solar Systems has installed a commercial solar energy system for a public and school buses operator across Suffolk County – Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc. at Long Island. The solar system having 51 kW capacity and featuring 255 panels was installed at the headquarters of the company in Bay Shore, NY.

The solar system will generate around 57,623 kWh of electrical energy per year and can result in savings of around $10,718 in utility bills per year for Suffolk Transportation Service. It will offset around 71,610 lbs of CO2, which equals recycling 964,920 soda cans, planting trees in an area of 5 acres and not utilizing gasoline of 3,687 gallons.

Mercury Solar Systems’s General Manager Kevin P. Harvey commented that the cash rebates offered by LIPA reduce the initial investment by 50% when switching to solar energy and 30% more gets reduced with the help of federal tax credits. Kevin further added that this is an ideal return on investment and can produce pollution-free electrical energy savings for around 40 years.
