Crystalline silicon solar panels manufacturer Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. has announced plans to take part in Earth Day efforts. By focusing on creating awareness and incorporation of solar energy, the company will participate in panel donations and educational events in communities even as far as Morogoro, Tanzania, to Austin, Texas.
Since 2001, Suntech Power Holdings has installed 2.2 GW of solar energy in more than 80 nations, sufficient to offset nine coal-fired power plants each having 250 MW capacity.
Some of the activities undertaken by Suntech Power Holdings include the following. The company collaborated with McNeil High School Green Club of Austin and subsidized the expenses of a 10 kW solar system by means of a partnership with URS Corporation, a local partner. The company donated 10 kW of solar panels to Nurturing Minds, a non-profit organization that operates the Sega Girls School located in Morogoro, Tanzania. On April 17, the company took part in the EcoAvenues ceremony, marking its very first U.S. production facility in Goodyear, Arizona. On April 23, the company took part in Earth Day Celebration on a campus of CalTech in Pasadena. One of the visions of CalTech that includes installing a 1.3 MW solar system of Suntech Power Holdings.
