At the P3 award competition and National Sustainable Design Expo conducted during April 23–26, 2010, in Washington, D.C., the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded grants of over $1 million to 14 college groups throughout the U.S. The groups that won the People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) awards of the EPA had created sustainable ideas and projects that help promote economic growth, protect the environment and efficiently utilize natural resources.
Each of the P3 award winners obtains around $75,000 for further development of their projects and ideas. The P3 award competition and National Sustainable Design Expo exhibits cutting-edge innovative technologies designed by students as well as sustainable technologies and policies designed and implemented by state and government agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses.
The winners of 2010 awards are Drexel University; North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University; Virginia Tech; Roger Williams University; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Cornell University; two teams from Clarkson University; Appalachian State University; Humboldt State University; Texas A&M University; Clemson University; and Harvard University.
