American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: AMSC), a global power technologies company, announced today that it has received an initial order for full wind turbine electrical control systems from China’s Shenyang Blower Works (Group) Co., Ltd. (SBW) that is worth approximately US$70 million. The systems will be deployed in the 2 megawatt (MW) doubly fed induction wind turbines that were co-developed with AMSC Windtec™, a wholly owned subsidiary of AMSC. This is the largest initial electrical control system order that AMSC has received to date from any wind turbine customer.

Green Energy Products supplies wind power systems. The 10 kW GridTek wind power system generates power ranging from 600 kilowatt hours to about 2,000 kilowatt hours per month. The power generation capacity of the system is dependant on the availability of wind resources. These wind power systems are supplied as packages and include components such as a BWC Excel-S turbine, XLG30 tower kit and XTWK30 tower wiring kit. The BWC Excel-S wind turbine has a rotor in a diameter of 7 meters and produces 10 kilowatts of power.
