Cape Sharp Tidal to Deploy Fully Grid Connected 4MW Tidal Array in the Bay of Fundy

Tidal technology group, OpenHydro, a DCNS company, and its Canadian partner Emera Inc. have today formally launched a new joint venture business, called Cape Sharp Tidal. The announcement was made at the fifth International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE), which is taking place 4-6th November in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

‘Grimsel’ Electric Racing Car Breaks World Record for Acceleration

The ‘grimsel’ electric racing car today broke the previous world record for acceleration in electric cars. The vehicle accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.79 seconds in under 30 metres. The new record was set by students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, who also designed and built the vehicle.

Study Determines Importance of Denitrification in Patches of Shallow Groundwater

Even during summer dry spells, some isolated patches of soil in forested watersheds remain waterlogged. These patches act as hot spots of microbial activity that remove nitrogen from groundwater and return it to the atmosphere, researchers from several institutions, including Virginia Tech, report in a leading scientific journal.

Rachel MacTavish is growing salt marsh plants in microcosms that replicate the tide. She assembled them in an outdoor greenhouse at the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve in Georgia, USA, with buckets from a hardware store, aquarium tubing, and pumps. Her tidal simulation units could be an important tool for preserving and restoring environmentally important wetlands, because they enable researchers to investigate tidal marsh plant growth in a controlled setting.
