Nordex offers the Nordex N80 2.5 MW wind turbine. The three-bladed rotor incorporated in the wind turbine measures 80 m in diameter and offers a swept area of 5026 m².
This rotor operates at speeds ranging from 10.8 to 18.9 rpm and its maximum tolerable tip speed is 80 m/s. The blades of the rotor are made of high quality glass fibre reinforced polyester. The rotor utilizes a spherical roller bearing for smoother running. For regulating the power generation an individually operated and electromechanically driven pitch system is used.
The gear box installed at the nacelle is a two stage planetary gearbox type with one spur gear stage. A cooling circuit with variable cooling outputs is integrated in the gearbox to keep the gears in cool condition. The bearing and tooth arrangements of the gear box are continuously lubricated for smoothness. The Nordex N80 2.5 MW wind turbine offered by Nordex incorporates a liquid cooled double fed asynchronous type of generator with a cascade converter. The generator operates in the speed range of 740-1300 rpm and offers a voltage of 660 V at 50 Hz frequency. The yaw system incorporated in the wind turbine continuously monitors the wind direction by utilizing the sensors installed on the nacelle and adjusts the nacelle yaw direction during wind deviations by using four geared motors.
For controlling various functions of the turbine, the Nordex N80 2.5 MW wind turbine incorporates a patented Nordex control system. This remote-controlled system allows remote monitoring and data reporting. For the purpose of stopping the operations of the wind turbine this wind turbine incorporates a rotor blade pitch as primary brake system and a hydraulic disk brake as secondary brake system. The rotor is installed over a modular tubular steel tower. The lightening protection installed in the wind turbine is compliant with EN 62305 requirements.
