SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., in response to the increasing need for solar cell modules in the Japanese market, has announced plans to increase the capacity of production of HIT solar cell modules at its Shiga Plant located in Ohtsu City, Shiga Prefecture and its Nishikinohama Factory located in Kaizuka City, Osaka Prefecture. Presently, the Japanese market is growing quickly thanks to installation subsidies provided by the prefectural and national governments.
Currently, the production capacity of the Nishikinohama Factory is 35 MW and this is likely to increase to 40 MW. The production capacity of the Shiga Plant stands at 100 MW and is likely to reach 250 MW.
The HIT solar cell manufacturing facilities of SANYO Electric are Shimane SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. located in Unnan City, Shimane Prefecture and the Nishikinohama Factory located in Kaizuka City, Osaka Prefecture. However, the solar cell modules are manufactured at the Shiga Plant and the Nishikinohama Factory as well as the Monterrey Factory situated in Mexico and the Hungary Factory.
By March 2011, SANYO Electric intends to take its production capacity of HIT solar cells to 600 MW from 340 MW. Moreover, the company intends to develop a production system which can meet the growing needs of the solar markets of Europe, North America and Japan.
