The U.S. Department of Energy (U.S. DOE) has made an made an announcement that 120 organizations throughout the nation will obtain around $120 million by means of a Weatherization Assistance Program, which will include certain solar PV installations.
Through the different programs receiving funds, solar water-heating systems will be installed. A wide variety of weatherization and energy-efficiency measure are also included. These investments will facilitate weatherization agencies for expanding their programs and will help support novel pilot projects for demonstrating financial models, weatherization delivery and new technologies.
Presently, the Weatherization Assistance Program is weathering homes at a rate of around 25,000 per month. This program is generating thousands of domestic jobs. Reports indicate that the Recovery Act Weatherization Program helped support over 13,000 jobs during Q2 of 2010. By means of the program, approximately $90 million funds as per the Recovery Act will be provided to over 100 well-performing domestic weatherization providers in 27 U.S. states.
A surplus $30 million from the annual budget of the weatherization program will be awarded to 16 organizations that will showcase innovative methods to weatherizing low-income multifamily and single homes. Projects will comprise novel kinds of financial models, weatherization partnerships, volunteer engagement and workforce training.
