Petrobras America Partners with KL Energy for Cellulosic Ethanol Production

Petrobras America Inc. has partnered with KL Energy Corporation (KLE) towards optimizing the cellulosic ethanol process technology of KLE meant for sugarcane Bagasse feedstock.

KLE’s latest process design provides considerable enhancements that include the ability to optimize for multiple feedstocks. Under the agreement, Petrobras will be providing $11 million towards adapting the demonstration facility of KLE to utilize Bagasse, validate this optimized process by way of producing bio-lignin and cellulosic ethanol from Bagasse through multiple campaigns and licensing the technology.

Simultaneously, KLE and Petrobras America will be jointly working towards a cellulosic ethanol facility project that is Bagasse-based. By 2013, this facility would be integrated totally as a sugarcane mill while having the capacity to produce 15 million liters of cellulosic ethanol annually.
