PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PWC) has brought out a new report titled "The U.S.-China Cleantech Connection: Shaping a new commercial diplomacy," detailing the emerging trends in the clean technology segment in U.S.A and China, and how the two countries strive to lead the sector globally. The write up also examines various potential developments and how the two countries mutually influence major growth prospects in their respective countries and globally.
According to the report though China has manufactured nearly one third of the solar PV panels used in the world during the year 2009, the solar installations in the country represents hardly 3% of the solar installations all over the world. China’s solar installation percentage is set to increase with the willing support from US companies for its mega solar power projects. According to the report China provided liberal inducements for the local, national and regional clean energy ventures which in turn made the country, the world’s biggest market for wind turbines during the year 2009. China is looking forward to use its clean energy mechanisms to address the woes of its water and air pollutions at the national level and it has placed a high priority for its water management. The report depicts how the current power generation plans of China and its intention to construct mega clean power generating plants opens up prospects for more US collaboration. The report predicts that the manufacture of Alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) in China will reach its annual production limited to around 400,000 units by the year 2016 and such production will surpass countries such as USA and other European countries. The report further states that the Chinese electric vehicle manufactures will achieve a global share of 35% in the year 2020 from its dismal picture of 3% in 2010.
Tim Carey, PWC’s U.S. Cleantech leader, said that the cleantech upraise reached its amazing impetus last year and he equated the race for clean energy with that of the space war during the sixties. He added that both China and USA occupy the front position in the clean energy sector and both the countries have realized that the active use of clean energy alone can help their countries to sustain their long term economic growth while continuing the ecological protection and resource conservation.
