Fafco Solar, a solar electric company located in Cape Coral, has been contracted to erect a 54 kW solar PV system over Lee County Public Safety Building situated at 14750 Six Mile Cypress Parkway.
The solar installation receives direct funding from the Department of Energy under the auspices of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) that uses Federal Funds without any tax burden to the tax payers. The ground breaking ceremony for the construction was held on 6th September 2010.
The proposed 54 kW solar PV system will have a total of 236 roof top mounted solar photovoltaic panels to produce an annual output of 85 MW. The solar panels utilized in the construction are manufactured in America conforming to the buy American act and will be installed utilizing locally available labor. The proposed system will incorporate Enphase Microinvertors that can individually supervise the functioning of each solar panel to improve power production. The company intends to display the power production over an LCD screen at the facility as well as at its website. Though most of the solar power produced from the installation will be utilized within the facility any excess power will get transported to the grid utilizing the proposed grid connectivity.
Jason Szumlanski, Operations and Project Manager of Fafco Solar, said that the use of Federal grant money will lessen the functioning costs at the Lee County Public Safety Building, will allow the use of local talent at Lee County and will continue to benefit the county for a number of years. He added that the proposed solar system will reduce the use of fossil fuel within the county and the modular system can be increased in size in tone with future developments.
