Equity One Completes Solar Power Installation for Shaw’s Supermarket

Equity One Inc declared that it has completed its first rooftop solar installation for Shaw’s Supermarket a division SUPERVALU unit of grocery stores. The 194 kW solar module is installed over the rooftop of the supermarket located at Equity One owned Webster Plaza in Webster Mass.

The project is said to be the first among the four probable solar projects to be worked together by Equity One and SUPERVALUE. Equity One has completed the project development and installation in association with American Capital Energy and LB Energy Partners. The installed rooftop solar modules incorporate around 750 solar panels to produce around 226,000 kWh of solar power every year. The installation is expected to prevent up to 179 tons of CO2 discharge every year which is equivalent to keeping 31 cars or light trucks off the road or raising trees over an area of 35 acres every year.

Jeff Olson, Equity One’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed excitement over the clean energy proposal of Supervalu and his company’s initiative towards clean energy development. He added that the installation will enable Equity One to provide electric power to its renters at a concessional rate while yielding appealing profits to its investors. Larry Wahlstrom, Shaw’s President reiterated his company’s commitment to environmental preservation. He expressed his happiness to associate with Equity One in the solar project and his intentions to continue the sustainable initiatives with Equity One.
