A Northern California Congressman, Wally Herger has won the exalted “Biomass Advocate Outstanding Achievement” award, for his steadfast support to the biomass power industry.
The award was conferred by California Biomass Energy Alliance (CBEA). According to CBEA when renewable energy is the focus people think about either solar or wind power. But that was not the case with Herger, as he not only perceived the significance of biomass power and the numerous advantages it offers, but has also strived diligently to facilitate the expansion and growth of this industry, which would be beneficial to all Californians.
The Biomass power industry decreases green house gas releases by 6.75 million tons yearly, employs 750 Californians, separates clean wood waste matter from landfill areas, and also creates jobs for 1200-1500 people indirectly via their suppliers.
Herger’s endeavors in extending the tax credits for federal renewable energy production, to all biomass plants belonging to the open loop, are assisting firms in the creation of green jobs, and also expand generation, which would in the long run help California to fulfill its renewable energy directives.
Congressman Herger revealed that, to receive such an honor from CBEA, was a great pleasure and a matter of pride. His work with the CBEA to facilitate growth of California’s economy, solve the problem of accumulation of unnatural fuels in the forests, and production of valuable energy, was going strong, but he felt that there was lots more to accomplish, to bring biomass power to the forefront.
CBEA represents California’s 33 electricity generating units, powered by biomass, supplying renewable energy to 600,000 businesses and homes in California. Biomass power’s share is almost 17½% of all the renewable energy in California.
