Suntech Power Holdings Co, a manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar panels and Calisolar Inc a producer of solar silicon, cells and wafers declared that they have signed a formal accord to build a solar silicon production factory in Ontario Canada.
The proposed facility when completed will considerably increase the current production functions in Vaughan Ontario while opening up more job opportunities for factory operators and engineers. The new production capability is expected to double the employment opportunities in 6N Silicon, a newly acquired and fully owned auxiliary company of Calisolar. As agreed in the Letter of Intent Suntech will provide funding assistance to Calisolar’s proposed expansions. Suntech has also agreed to buy the solar silicon manufactured at the new production facility of Calisolar.
Steven Chan, Suntech's North American operations, President, said that the association with Calisolar provides openings for the company to speedup the growth of the solar industry in the state of Ontario and the demand for solar implementations all over Canada. He added that his company has settled for silicon refining industry due to the product export viability and its capability to create long term job opportunities.
Sandra Beach Lin, CEO of Calisolar said that the accord with Suntech symbolizes an important landmark in the expansion of Calisolar. He added that the exclusive silicon refining know-how developed at its factory in Ontario offers considerable ecological and cost advantages. He concluded saying that his company is looking forward to growing in Ontario in association with Suntech to serve the growing solar energy market of Ontario for a long period.
