Provider of automation and production systems for manufacturing silicon wafers and solar cells, Amtech Systems, announced that Tempress Systems has obtained nearly $68 million in solar orders from a new Taiwanese customer and from existing Chinese customers. Tempress Systems is the solar subsidiary of Amtech Systems. Tempress obtained orders for the diffusion processing systems of Amtech.
Semiconductor chips or semiconductors are fabricated on the silicon wafer substrates. They are sliced from ingots and are a vital component of various electronic components such as industrial automation systems, consumer goods, automotive products, telecommunication devices, computers, and solar cells. Amtech’s thermal processing and wafer handling products address the PSG, PECVD, deposition, oxidation, and diffusion removal steps that are utilized for fabricating MEMS, semiconductors, solar cells, and for polishing sliced silicon wafers.
Amtech’s Chief Executive Officer, J.S. Whang, stated that the effort put in by the customers and by the solar industry to enhance the cell efficacy would drive the demand for improved diffusion technology.
