CPV Renewable Energy, an associate of Competitive Power Ventures, announced that it has built and tested the Keenan II wind farm located in Oklahoma. The 152 MW wind farm is now providing renewable energy to the electric grid.
The wind farm is built on 8,000 acres of area near southwest Woodward in Oklahoma. The wind project is the second phase of a wind energy project that has a total potential capacity of more than 350 MW. The first phase was the 101 MW Keenan I wind farm, which was built and sold by the company in September 2008 to Oklahoma Gas & Electric.
The Keenan II wind farm has been installed with 66 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines. The wind project is anticipated to produce enough energy to power about 45,000 homes in Oklahoma. The farm is also expected to eliminate about 413,000 short tons of green house gas emissions per year.
For the phase II project, CPV has entered into a 20-year agreement with Oklahoma Gas & Electric for power purchase. The Keenan II wind farm is co-owned by ITOCHU’s indirect subsidiary, Tyr Keenan II, and GE Energy Financial Services.
