Abengoa, BHEL to Build Concentrated Solar Power Facilities in India

Abengoa, a Spanish firm, and an Indian public sector firm, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), have signed a partnership deed to construct modern concentrated solar power (CSP) facilities in India.

Abengoa operates in the bio-energy, solar, power generation and environmental service segments and has operations in the United States, Asia, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

BHEL stated that the partnership would offer the two firms to power their engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solutions for CSP facilities in India. It would also provide the company the prospect to form partnerships in energy projects across the world, the company added.

BHEL continued that it is an important partnership considering the perspective of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, recently introduced by the Indian government. The objective of the solar mission is to develop about 20,000 MW of solar power projects by 2022. The solar mission represents the commitment of the nation to reduce the emissions of green house gases to control global warming.
