A 1.2 MW solar system has been completed by Nazca on the roof of a food conditioning facility in the South of France, announced Solyndra.
The Cavaillon-based company, which imports and conditions vegetables and fruits needed the facility’s 17,500 m² (188,000 ft2) rooftop to be renovated to obtain maximum waterproofing. This makes it the second Solyndra system for Nazca in France and one of the largest worldwide.
Solyndra’s photovoltaic (PV) systems are based on the company’s pioneering cylindrical design and its fast and easy installation over large commercial rooftops was identified by Nazca as the best solution for the turnkey project developed by a third party investor.
The complete installation took 11 weeks and on February 15, 2011 the facility was connected to the grid. Solyndra’s light-weight, ballast-free, non-penetrating mounting system required no additional engineering on the rooftop. The installed system maximizes power density while providing photovoltaic roof coverage of more than 77%.
The system at the facility is installed on white reflective PVC membrane and consists of over 6800 Solyndra panels. The system can generate 1500 MWh of photovoltaic electricity annually.
