Eco IT Services Offerings Significantly Improve Margins for Partners

Continuing the momentum of its ongoing Eco Innovation Initiative, Sun Microsystems today announced the Sun[SM] Eco Advantage Program (EAP), providing Sun Partner[SM] Advantage Program members with the tools, resources and training they need to build their own eco IT practices. This new program enables Sun's worldwide partners to deliver a comprehensive set of products and services to meet growing customer demand for energy-efficient IT strategies and solutions and increase revenue-generating opportunities. As companies face rising energy costs and look to deploy more energy-saving technologies, they are seeking partners who can deliver energy-efficient products, as well as assist with consulting and integration projects. A recognized leader in developing energy-efficient products and solutions, Sun is uniquely positioned to provide the proven methodologies and resources for partners to build eco IT services that will reduce customers' energy, cooling and space costs. This new program provides Sun Partner Advantage members with exclusive access to Sun's comprehensive portfolio of eco services and products, including Sun servers, such as the new Sun Sun SPARC® Enterprise T5140 and T5240 servers announced last week, the virtualized Solaris[TM] Operating System and scalable archive products.

"Having an established eco services practice which utilizes Sun's energy-efficient technologies, we plan to use the Sun Eco Advantage Program's methodologies and tools to create additional offerings to better serve our customers and grow our business," said Vince Conroy, Chief Technology Officer of FusionStorm.

The EAP resources will give Sun partners the capabilities they need to deliver high value eco services. The program is designed for Sun partners that have SPARC-based server customers, datacenter integration expertise and consulting capabilities. As part of EAP, partners will have access to a wealth of content, including specialized training modules, assessment services and implementation methodologies. These resources will be available on the Sun Partner Advantage Portal.

The Program includes four key components:

  • Training - Basic training on datacenter power, cooling, space and environmental issues; specialized training on delivering consolidation and virtualization services to reduce customers' operational costs, improve service quality and reduce the overall carbon footprint.
  • Sun Eco Assessment Service - Provides a technical evaluation of datacenter energy use, cooling capacity, rack placement, air distribution and other environmental factors
  • Eco Modeling and ROI Tools - Helps partners model multiple power, cooling and carbon savings scenarios
  • Implementation Methodologies - Helps deliver a more energy and cost-effective IT environment

“The Sun Eco Advantage Program is an extension of Sun's belief that eco stands for both ecology and economics,” said Bill Cate, senior director of Global Channel Marketing, Sun Microsystems. “Sun understands that helping partners quickly build out their portfolio of energy-saving products and services will provide value to customers and create revenue opportunities for the partners themselves.”
