Siemens Energy to Supply Solar Receivers for Power Project in Rajasthan, India

A supply agreement has been signed by Siemens Energy, a supplier of a full range of products, services and solutions for solar thermal power plants, and Shiram EPC, a wind energy company based in India, for Universal Vacuum Air Collector (UVAC) 2010 solar receivers.

Siemens will supply more than 17,000 units of the UVAC 2010 for a power plant, which is to be constructed in Rajasthan, India. Abhijeet Group is the developer of the 50 MW project and the plant is expected to commence operation in the spring of 2013. The solar receivers will produce sufficient heat needed for the power plant.

Key features of the UVAC 2010 solar receivers are high solar absorption, decreased heat loss and excellent product durability. These features offer high revenues and minimize operating costs for solar field developers. The Abhijeet project is a part of the Indian government's program for encouraging solar power, which is referred as Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). The main aim of JNNSM is to install about 20 GW of solar energy capacity in India by 2020.

Shmuel Fledel, CEO of Siemens Solar Thermal Energy Business Unit, stated that the company is reinforcing its business for concentrating solar power (CSP) technology, as the CSP market in India is developing rapidly.

Siemens offers high-efficiency solar receivers and solutions, such as power blocks and solar fields for parabolic trough power facilities. The company has received three orders to deliver steam turbine generator systems for solar power plants in Rajasthan. The orders also include the delivery of a steam turbine system for the Abhijeet project.
