AREVA Solar, a concentrated solar power (CSP) solution provider, has announced the construction of the largest CSP plant in Asia. The project is to be built at Rajasthan in India.
The project will facilitate in promoting India’s objective to add 20,000 MW of solar energy by the year 2022. This will remove nearly 557,000 t of CO2 emissions annually when compared to coal-fired power plant of similar size.
As per the agreement, two 125 MW CSP plants will be constructed and further management services for construction will be provided by the company. The compact linear fresnel reflector (CLFR) technology of the company will be used in the CSP plants.
The first phase of the project is underway and is scheduled to operate from May, 2013.
Reliance has contracted AREVA for this project, demonstrating that AREVA is a pioneer in providing CSP solutions for industrial power plants, solar hybrid uses, augmenting power for fossil-fired power plants and others.
Furthermore, the company has received a contract from Australia to construct a 44 MW solar thermal project to the Kogan Creek power plant, which operates on coal. Additionally, the Solar Flagships Program of Australia chose the company’s energy consortium as the preferable bidder for a 250 MW CLFR power project. Further, the company has partnered with Tucson Electric Power for a solar augmentation project at Arizona in the US.
Currently, the company has over 500 MW of CSP projects that are in different stages of development.
