Oncor has launched The Green Button as part of a national initiative to provide its customers with a tool that will enable them to monitor and manage their energy usage level in order to save energy and reduce their electricity bills.
The Green Button was launched on Smart Meter Texas Portal of the state. This button will enable customers to easily access information about the amount of energy used from smart meters. This information can be obtained through the Green Button located on the electric utilities' website.
The Green Button enables customers to come up with wise decisions on how to save and conserve energy. A common data format is created for 15-minute power reads according to advanced meters used in households. This data format has been nationally standardized and customers can securely share this data format with third party service providers. These providers are responsible to provide personal advice for the household, identify trends and examine and understand the usage of energy in the households.
Oncor aims to install more than 3.2 million advanced meters towards the end of this year. At present, advanced meters amounting to more than 2.7 million have been installed by Oncor. Oncor’s Energy Saver contest that was held last year highlighted that the customers reduced the consumption of energy in their households and paid lower electricity bills by utilizing Oncor’s advanced meter.
