Green Ballast Inc., announced today that it had completed a total lighting project for eleven Shelby County Schools (SCS). In addition to incorporating its patented daylight harvesting fluorescent light ballasts, Green Ballast performed a complete energy efficient lighting upgrade on the eleven schools that included new lights in the classrooms, hallways, offices and some of the gyms and auditoriums.
The Shelby County School District is the fourth largest in Tennessee serving over 47,000 students.
"Before Green Ballast started the lighting project for us, they came to us with a mission with very clear objectives:
- Produce energy savings of 30% to 70% by replacing the existing lights we were using
- Improve the quality of lighting within the existing schools
- Reduce our repair and maintenance costs
"After speaking with our faculty, students and staff, overall consensus is the project has been an overwhelming success," according to Michael Simpson , Chief of Operations at Shelby County Schools. "Teachers have been pleased with the improved lighting in the classroom and the coaches have been delighted to have the new gym lights. From an operational standpoint, it is notable that all these lighting improvements were made and we are saving on our lighting electrical costs," he added.
"Performing the complete lighting upgrade for the eleven Shelby County Schools is an example of Green Ballast being a total solution provider of complete lighting upgrades," said Kevin B. Clarkson , EVP of Green Ballast. "In addition to providing daylight harvesting, we implemented other strategies including LED down lighting, exit lighting and fluorescent high-bay fixtures. This is a business model that we are now expanding on a national basis, and adding diversity to our revenue base."
