Menlo’s Sunview Way Facility Receives Singapore BCA’s Green Mark GoldPlus Certification

Menlo Worldwide Logistics (Menlo), the US$1.7 billion global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc., today announced that its state-of-the-art warehousing and retail distribution management center at Sunview Way in Singapore has earned the Singapore Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark GoldPlus certification.

The Green Mark rating system evaluates buildings for their environmental impact and performance, focusing on energy efficiency, water efficiency, environmental protection, indoor environmental quality and other green features and innovation.

The Sunview Way facility opened in January and was designed by Menlo and its development partner, Second Development Pte Ltd. The facility is among the first to be designated as such under the program and was constructed using advanced green building design and construction materials, emphasizing environmental sustainability and high levels of energy and water-use efficiency. The Green Mark program, endorsed and supported by the National Environment Agency, is an initiative to drive Singapore's construction industry toward more environmentally friendly buildings.

“Earning Green Mark GoldPlus certification for our new facility in Singapore marks another important step on our journey to provide the best in customized and sustainable logistics solutions,” said Robert L. Bianco Jr., president of Menlo Worldwide Logistics. “Through careful planning and a commitment to sustainable business practices and Lean continuous improvement, our team accomplished the second highest level of certification in the program. We’re proud of the successful collaboration and hard work that went into Sunview Way and we hope to serve as an example of environmental responsibility that other businesses can look to for their efforts.”

“Embracing sustainability within our operations means long-term cost savings for our business and a healthier environment for the future; it’s a win-win,” said Patrick Goh, Senior Director, Supply Chain Management at Canon Singapore, one of Menlo’s customers at the Sunview Way facility.

“Guided by our kyosei philosophy that focuses on ‘living and working together for the common good,’ Canon is dedicated to steering our research and manufacturing processes towards sustainability, reducing waste and preserving the environment. The marriage of economic and environmental sustainability is the next step in world class supply chain management and we are happy to partner with a provider that can help us successfully achieve that union.”

The facility also contains many other green features including the use of recycled concrete aggregates, sustainably sourced office carpet and ceiling board, high-efficiency air conditioning and energy-efficient Philips T5 fluorescent lighting.
