By tapping into new social media to underscore the importance of homegrown fuel to a new generation of drivers, the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), the national trade association for the U.S. ethanol industry, has had the opportunity to reach an even bigger audience through the internet. Today the power of that audience is realized.
Thousands of people the world over viewed and voted on E85 Flex-Fuel Challenge submissions, and today, the RFA is proud to announce the Grand Prize winner.
In early March, the E85 Flex-Fuel Challenge was launched to ask the public, “What is renewable to you?” The contestants were given the opportunity to express what is renewable to them through video, song or photo for the chance to win a Macbook Air computer. Submissions were accepted until April 3, 2009, and a peer voting process took place between April 4 and May 29, 2009.
The Grand Prize winner, selected by a panel of judges, is a video entitled “Funky Fresh Flex Fuel”, submitted by Chip McAfee from Arizona. You can view his video here.
The Grand Prize winner was based on 33% creativity, 33% quality and 34% relevance to the contest theme of renewability.
A people’s choice award was also given to the entry that received the highest number of total votes through the duration of the contest. The award was won by a photo submission entitled “University of Wisconsin-Platteville”. You can view that photo here. The user received a Passport hard drive for his winning submission.
Additionally, eight weekly drawings were made to award prizes to randomly selected voters.
The E85 Flex-Fuel Challenge is preparing to launch a new summer photo contest in mid-June, so stay tuned for more details on how to enter.
The Fuel-Flex Challenge was sponsored by the Kansas Corn Commission, the Kentucky Corn Growers Association, the United Sorghum Checkoff Program and the Renewable Fuels Association.
