Pepco Energy Services Selected to Execute Energy Efficiency Contract at Oriole Park, M+T Bank Stadium and Camden Yards

Pepco Energy Services, a leading company in energy savings performance contracting and a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, has been selected by the Maryland Stadium Authority to execute an energy efficiency contract at Oriole Park, M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland and Camden Yards.

This $9 million energy efficiency contract is for a period of 13 years and is inclusive of the B&O Warehouse, which stands on an 85-acre sports complex. Pepco Energy Services, as part of this contract, has taken up the responsibility to upgrade the heating and cooling plants, install energy efficient lighting and water saving fixtures and update building automation systems with the provision of proper maintenance services. Apart from these installations, Pepco Energy Services will carry out the installation of daylight harvesting controls, which are devices utilizing sunlight for interior lighting facilities at Oriole Park.

John Morton III, Chairman of the Maryland stadium Authority, remarked that this project will enable the State of Maryland to save more than $16 million in the performance period and will also help in removing about 7.6 million pounds of carbon dioxide, thus reducing carbon footprint.

John Huffman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Pepco Energy Services, stated that the company was happy in helping the Maryland Stadium Authority to implement energy efficient equipment that will bring about a reduction of 24 percent in the usage of energy besides improving the environment and saving money.

This Maryland Stadium Authority project is the result of the Maryland State government’s agreement with the initiatives put down by Governor O’Malley under the name, “EmPower Maryland.” Through these initiatives, the Governor insists that the consumption of energy in the State should be reduced by 15% by the year 2015.

Hatim Jabaji, of the Office of Energy Performance & Conservation in the Department of General Services, remarked that 25 projects similar to the Maryland Stadium Authority project are being implemented by the state in order to reduce costs and save energy. All these projects possess a construction value estimated at about $260 million. This amount is expected to be paid from energy savings for the future. Jabaji further stated that these projects are expected to save up to $26 million every year.
